Tom's Midnight Garden Exhibition

I designed and illustrated an exhibition based on the story of 'Tom's Midnight Garden' for Theatre by the Lake to run alongside their Christmas 2021 production. ​The exhibit 'A Window into Tom and Hatty's World' imaginatively depicts four main scenes from the story through physical windows mounted on the wall.

 

In the story Tom first sees the garden through a door but sometimes Hatty's sees the garden through a window. The scenes illustrated as layered scenes inside a box- similar to scenery on a stage, transport viewers into Tom and Hatty's adventures. The layered scenes are collaged, made from unique patterned papers, hand created by printmaking and painting as well as watercolour characters and other painted elements. I designed the whole exhibition including the vinyl wall info and hand painted the leafy mural surrounding the exhibit.
